Copyediting your business book

Line- and copyediting for

business books

"Maybe I am mellowing but that was the smoothest editing process I have been through in a long time. Every request for clarification made sense. The manuscript will be far better because of some firm but fair (and usefully and usually giggly) comments and requirements. It was a remarkably painless way to give birth to a new type of book for me."

I'm keen that we have a conversation so that I can understand what you're looking for.

That's why I offer a free exploratory call so we can see if we suit each other and what your needs are as you prepare to publish.

Ready for copyediting? Let's talk.
Copyediting
The line-by-line edit before typesetting
I offer a free exploratory call so that I can understand what you’re hoping for from an edit, understand your editorial preferences and so you can ask me questions.
Close reading your book, line-by-line, I will check spelling, punctuation, grammar and consistency, for example, hyphenation, capitalisation and use of numbers.
Your reader is always on my mind as I edit with a focus on areas where your reader could be distracted from your story and message.
I will build a style sheet to reflect your editorial preferences.
The style sheet could be useful if you write a sequel, when it could be used to support the consistency of the look and feel of a series.
Check out the 8 steps of my editing process
  1. Understand what's needed
  2. Final manuscript
  3. Editing checklist
  4. Style sheet.
  5. Professional editing software and macros.
  6. Line-by-line close read
  7. Final double-check
  8. Return the edited manuscript

Here's a blog with more information about your editorial report.

I will quote a flat fee – you'll know in advance how much your project will cost.

Please check out the services page for how I'll quote for your copyedit.

For business books, the sizes I've seen most often over the last couple of years (up to early 2024), have been 25,000 words and 40,000 words.

The indicative price for copyediting a 25,000 word business book is £650.

The indicative price for copyediting a 40,000 word business book is £900.

Economies of scale don't have a huge impact until the size of the book goes over 50,000 words.
