My route to proofreading

I'm a career changer, and spent many years as a chartered accountant in the manufacturing and retail sectors before becoming a proofreader and editor.

As my daughter started primary school, I became an editor and proofreader, and a business owner.

Working as an editor brought me back to my degree in English Literature, with the benefit of my business experience.

When I tell friends about my editorial career, they smile and say, 'It really suits you'.

I'm committed to the editorial profession

I'm a professional member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), complying with its Code of Practice.

At the start of 2018, I became the CIEP's local group coordinator for Manchester, and I'm still enjoying that role. In 2022, I shared it with a colleague, and I'm solo again now.

I've taken, and passed with merit , the Essential Proofreading by Distance Learning course by the Publishing Training Centre .

Take a look at
my (short) blog on the subject for the PTC.
