"Lisa is a blissfully clear, calm and warm person! You just know you are in good hands - and that makes life so much easier when you are putting something like a book out into the world."

Trisha Lewis, Author of The Mystery of the Squashed Self, Communication coach

How can copyediting or proofreading help you?

You've pored over your words, and you're preparing to publish.

You want to be consistent and avoid spelling errors and typos which could distract readers from what you want to say to them.

You are looking for a fresh pair of eyes to connect with your final draft . Fresh eyes bring a new perspective.

You think it's time for editing and proofreading, and it's time to work out what's needed next.

Let's talk about what you need. Drop me an email.

Which editorial service would suit you?

Proofreading is the double-check before publication.

Copyediting is the line-by-line edit before typesetting.

Proof-editing is for independent authors who'd like a little more intervention before publication.

As you prepare for publication, I’ll copyedit, proofread or proof-edit your content. My service always looks at consistency, grammar, spelling and punctuation .

I work in Word or PDF, and I typically work to a fixed fee. I will provide a quote based on a sample of your words, your needs and timescales.

I’m part of your book team and that means respecting and understanding your voice and your context.

Consistency is key for me – how your voice runs through your book, as well as checking capitalisation and hyphenation.

Are you writing a business book?

I've worked on a number of business books, and I'll bring my deep and varied knowledge of business to an edit of your book.

I'm keen to understand who your audience is and what you'd like to get from an edit.

After my degree in English Literature, I stepped out of my comfort zone, followed my love of logic, and became a chartered accountant, training with KPMG.

Many years as an accountant in the retail and manufacturing sectors gives me a wide background to support business book authors.

"Lisa stood as my pillar of clarity and precision. Her extraordinary patience and astute editing skills were not just a life saver; they were the air that my creative process needed to thrive … Her unique blend of humour and support made the painstaking task of editing enjoyable. Meanwhile, her unwavering commitment to accuracy ensured that my work remained grounded in its analytical rigour. "

Rachel Therese Evers,  Author of Your Personal Quest, Legal Counsel & Director of Legal Affairs at the International Organization for Migration (IOM)

Are you writing fiction?

As you can see from the sample of books I've worked on, I've proofread romance, historical fiction, contemporary fiction, thrillers, mystery and crime novels.

I read all kinds of speculative fiction – one of my claims to fame is having met George R.R. Martin at a book signing before there was a Game of Thrones TV series…

My MA (Hons, 1st) in English Literature is from the University of St Andrews, where I wrote my dissertation on C.S. Lewis and Susan Cooper. I follow #TheDarkIsReading every year – I've always had a love of children's books!

#BooksLightMeUp

As a friend told me, I light up when I talk about books! Check out my blogs where I talk about books that light me up.

"I have enjoyed working with Lisa throughout the process … The editorial report was very helpful in giving valuable feedback, highlighting inconsistencies that I had missed from my various edits, and some suggestions about the characters and plot which I found useful. As my first novel it was great to see it emerge from a rough draft into something more polished and grammatically correct. I would recommend Lisa to all authors."

Franco Renrow,  Author of Past Glory

Committed to editing and proofreading

Since I started LdC Editorial in 2017, I've become a professional member of the Chartered Institute for Editing and Proofreading (CIEP).

To achieve this, I completed recognised training courses, received positive client references, had more than 700 hours of experience (at the end of 2023, I was up to more than 1,700 hours) and I passed the CIEP's editorial test.

I'm also the CIEP's Manchester local group coordinator, which gives me the chance to talk to a wide range of editorial professionals.

I've always believed in continuous professional development. During 2021, I took CIEP's Introduction to Fiction Editing, Louise Harnby's Switching to Fiction course and I've attended the CIEP conference in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

I've worked on more than 100 books with independent authors and publishers. Here's a selection, and there's more background here.

Lisa's "mark up was incredibly clear. It was very useful to have suggestions of how to minimise disruptions to the text flow.

I have been impressed with Lisa's professionalism and reliability. She is a pleasure to work with."
